Getting excited!

Several new roles, a handful of old, beloved ones with some lovely recitals sprinkled in, including our Alfano CD launch with @bastillemusique , a return to the @augusteverding Theaterakademie aa a featured alumna, and my first trip to Japan with the #siaafoundation ! This will be a busy and exciting season. I’m also covering Eurydice (new one! 🥳), Musetta, Pamina, Lara (Die letzte Verschwörung) and Anna Reich! 🤪 So thrilled to start our new life in #vienna

🖤 Ophélie 🖤 Closing night here in #sydney and what a season we’ve had. I feel like I’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities of this character and now I have to say goodbye… for now 🤫
Feeling a huge amount of gratitude to everyone who made this a possibility including especially the @auscouncilarts and @phoenixcentralpark . And of course the wonderful public, who have responded so enthusiastically to this wild little beastie of a work. Very lucky to have such an amazing team in Con, Claudia and Francis (many hours spent reassembling this puzzle after I destroy it each show 😅)

After 2 years of blood, sweat and tears, a great passion project has finally come to fruition. In 2021 I received an @auscouncilarts grant to develop a new theatrical work exploring the many faces of Shakespeare’s Ophelia in classical music. Covid derailed this project many times, until we final found our dream home at @phoenixcentralpark . Tonight, we open. To my brilliant team of creatives, co-creators @constantinecosti & @clausborne and our wonderful MD, Francis Greep, thank you for joining me on this mission to realise this wacky vision of what contemporary opera could look like. Thank you to our brilliant musicians. And thank you to @phoenixcentralpark for believing in this idea!

So honoured to have been awarded 2nd Prize at the International Haydn Competition for Classical Lied and Aria in Austria this weekend! I was joined by wonderful pianist @malte_schaefer_tonkuenstler for three jam-packed days of Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart in the place of Haydn’s birth! It was a great thrill to perform his music in the same building where he was born!

Show #2 next month, but for now a quick trip to Munich to rehearse with @malte_schaefer_tonkuenstlfor the International Haydn Competition in Rohrau next weekend, and then Cenerentola rehearsals start Monday at the @volksoper ! 😜 Excited to reprise the hilarious ugly step sister Clorinda, which I first performed at the @salzburgerfestspiele almost 10 years ago!!! And to spend some time sitting with gorgeous high classical music in Haydn, Beethoven & Mozart. It’s very refreshing!
This is a busy 🌸 Spring 🌼 full of beautiful music. 🎶

Role debut tonight! So excited to perform the sweet, spunky Anna Reich in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor for the first time TONIGHT at the @volksoper Vienna! Based on the Shakespearean classic The Merry Wives of Windsor, this gorgeous production has been a total joy to create together with an awesome teamed, helmed by actual super hero and (incredibly) first-time opera director, @ninavspijkers and maestro extraordinaire and court jester @glassyben ! The sets are stunning, the colleagues are wonderful, the hi-jinx are hilarious. Thank you to this visionary company for another wonderful opportunity! Toi toi toi to us all!

January 2024 I’ll be making my debut in this seminal role at the wonderful @volksoper Vienna. I’m so grateful to this company for trusting me with this opportunity and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this meaty role. I’m also making several other debuts this season, including the female lead in Offenbach’s Voyage to the Moon, directed by Laurent Pelly, and Clorinda in La Cenerentola, as well as some wonderful concerts and recitals around the globe. This season will also mark my official relocation to Vienna, which will be our new home for the foreseeable future ♥️

One of the most wonderful gifts from Das Lied @liedzentrum competition at @hdfruehling last month was the @schottmusic newly-released critical edition of the complete songs of Richard Strauss. R. Strauss is my absolute favourite composer to sing, especially his Lieder, which taught me so much about music and expression. I’m so grateful to @schottmusic for sponsoring this very generous and treasured gift! I will make very good use of it!

It’s wonderful to be back at the @volksoper in #vienna ! I’m so excited to join the world premiere production of @moritz_eggert ‘s Die Letzte Verschwörung, covering the incredible @rebecca_nelsen who is a huge inspiration! This production is totally wild, extremely topical, hilarious, brilliant, moving and entertaining. It’s a thrill just to be in the room with these incredible artists, including the composer himself, director @beerlottede , conductor @sloane_steven and a brilliant team including @xtofhetzer @jorinevanbeek Alex Brock, Otto Pichler @roger_diazc @fredericbuhr & @lenehanjoseph not to mention the wonderful ensemble cast! What a joy to be back in the theatre ♥️

🏅Beside myself to have won 3rd Prize at @hdfruehling @liedzentrum Das Lied Wettbewerb at the renowned Heidelberger Frühling in Germany last weekend. Art Song - especially Kunstlied - has been such an integral part of my artistic life and to be able to honour that with this prize is just the most wonderful feeling. We opened the final with Schumann’s “Die Lotosblume” which I first performed when I was twelve - 20 years ago - and even back then, when I had no idea about flower symbolism in German Romanticism 🙃 , the song spoke to me and speaks to me still. I truly felt like the Lotosblume, opening myself to the intimate moonlight that is Kunstlied. My unending gratitude must go to to @thomasquasthoff for founding such a brilliant and important Art Song event for our industry, to the judging panel, the entire organisation for their incredible support and professionalism throughout, my colleagues and fellow competitors who made the experiences so much fun and alongside whom I felt a great honour to perform, and of course to the wonderful @hannahbbbanana for joining me on the crazy journey that is an Art Song competition! 🤪

I have a big announcement to share at the end of March which will entail incorporating a LOT more Art Song into my life. Can’t wait to share that with you all.

After a whirlwind 4 months (and 4 roles!) at the @volksoper I’m so happy to be returning in the current season for two further productions: the world premiere of @moritz_eggert 's „Die letzte Verschwörung“ directed by @beerlottede , and Anna Reich in “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor” directed by @ninavspijkers , conducted by @glassyben

Thrilled to be returning to Vienna sooner than expected, but not before a little R&R, announcement of a biiiig project I’ve been working on for 18 months, and Das Lied competition with the @liedzentrum @hdfruehling and @hannahbbbanana !
Very much looking forward to dinners with friends, my birthday, calm, private study and @neilsemer ‘s upcoming Eurotrip!

Last concert at the @volksoper last night! I debuted two French arias - Valse d’Edwige from “Robison Crusoe” and Valse Tyrolienne from “Un mari à la porte” - both effervescent and bombastic party pieces by Offenbach. (And I didn’t forget any words! 🙃)
This concert rounded out a thrilling winter season for me at this fabulous company. I’ll be back in Spring for two further opera productions and I can’t wait. Thank you to the Opera Studio Director @maurice.lenhard for inviting me to join this fun concert and to Rafael Salas-Chia for his very supportive and inspired playing ❤️. Also to the @volksoper costume department for finding me (and tailoring) this elegant dress at the last minute (after I realised a few hours before the concert I’d already sent all my gowns back to Paris 🙈)
Now for some much needed R&R, including a trip to #avignon for @alexanderjamesyork and @edliddall ‘s Spanish recital at @operagrandavignon ! So wonderful to have @narellafloodcoaching here too! I have had such a wonderful time performing Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the @volksoper in Vienna (here taking my curtain call with @tobiaswoegerer - we both and our debuts with this piece!). And it has been like coming home. I feel like everything I have learned about singing I had to apply for this role. And having the chance to perform it, on stage, in Vienna, where the Magic Flute had its debut in 1791, with such magnificent company in such a storied house has been a dream come true. Closing night tomorrow and @narellafloodcoaching is here to see it! A perfect way to end my current Viennese sojourn. (Not before a fabulous French operetta concert with the @volksoper Opera. Studio). Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon 😉😘

Gretel premiere at the @volksoper this weekend! My time as a soloist in residence at this storied house has been a whirlwind - can’t believe I‘ve already been here for 2.5 months! The music is stunning and I’m loving the beautiful, very traditional production with *real* Lebkuchen (gingerbread) that will pull off the witch’s house! Gretel is a meaty role and managing the middle voice passages has been a journey but I’m grateful for the opportunity to focus on something my usually higher repertoire doesn’t always tap into. The colleagues are wonderful and I can‘t wait to make this music! So excited to meet all the children and for the gorgeous @wallis.giunta ’s Hänsel debut with Maestro @carlogoldstein this Sunday!
